Theme: Leading digital schools to embrace the best of the present and the
future
After such an overwhelming response to the Third National Leading a Digital
School Conference at the Gold Coast International Hotel in September 2009,
IWBNet has much pleasure in announcing that it will hold its Fourth National
Leading a Digital School Conference in Melbourne, Victoria, on Thursday 2,
Friday 3 and Saturday 4 September 2010.

It is a very exciting, rewarding and challenging time to be in a leadership
position in today’s schools. One eye must be on the very best practices for
schooling with a strong focus on the present and the current opportunities for
students. On the other hand no person in a leadership position within a school
can afford to ignore the future and the potential opportunities for students,
because today, the future does indeed quickly come around.
To support this critical dual focus – the best of the present and the future
– we are providing in the 2010 conference program the following elements:
Three keynote speakers:
- Education Futures and Technology
- The Critical Elements of Educational Leadership Today
- Educational Technology Leadership – what is required?
Presentations and workshops: The presentations and workshops will
address the issue of current and/or future education and the relationship
with digital technology to improve educational outcomes:
- Teaching Practices – and the relationship with digital technology
- Ways of Learning – and the relationship with digital technology
- Whole School Practice – and the relationship with digital
technology
- Case Studies – showcasing best practice in digital schooling from
different stakeholders (primary, secondary, early childhood education,
systems and parents)
- Technologies – the current best and emerging technologies for
learning, administration and leadership
- Digital Citizens – addressing cyber safety, cyber bullying and
internet use policies
- Research - sessions showcasing research that has made a
contribution to understanding the educational benefits of digital technology
in schools
- Hands-on Workshops – involving active engagement with computers
or other technology. Delegates will learn new skills, gain new knowledge,
and explore topics in depth. Participants will benefit most from these
sessions if they bring their laptops with them
- Students – an opportunity to share with students and connect
their vision with ours
- Discussion – an opportunity to reflect on the keynote sessions
and digital schooling in general
- Vendors – sessions addressing the educational and teaching and
learning benefits of selected commercial, interactive, digital products.
An interactive conference environment:
- A range of audio visual media and web 2.0 tools will play an integral
role at the conference. Online tools such as Ning, Twitter, blogs, wikis,
and Flickr will be made available to delegates before during and after the
conference for interacting with other delegates and sharing conference
experiences. To assist delegates with this communication we are providing a
“kiosk environment” where delegates can meet to seek assistance and support
each other.
- With the permission of the keynote speakers, the three keynote speeches
will be recorded (video, audio and text). These sessions will be available
on the IWBNet website after the conference for further viewing and
professional learning sessions at your school.
An online conference component:
- To support those who would like to attend the conference but are not
able to do so, we are providing an online conference component of selected
keynotes and sessions.
